The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association released the Average Daily Memberships (ADM) numbers, according to the 2008-2009 school attendance from grades 9th through 12th, and Guthrie remains near the middle of Class 5A.
Guthrie ranks number 45, in Oklahoma, and the 13th biggest 5A school with an average ADM of 905.71. A decrease in the number of students by 38.52 from the 07-08 figures. On top of Class 5A attendance is Tulsa East Central with 1242.30 students. East Central along with Tulsa Memorial fall down to 5A and participate in 5A sports except for football.
Shawnee and Bixby, two perennial power houses in majority of the sports including football and baseball make the jump to 6A. Perhaps, getting the best news was Harrah who moves back to 4A |
along with Stillwell. On the other side of the spectrum, Grove and Tulsa Central are moving up to 5A from 4A.
ADM figures, who are turned in from the schools themselves, determines which class a school will participate in. The top 32 schools make up Class 6A and the following 32 schools fall into Class 5A and the next 32 make up Class 4A.
Football district alignments for the 2010 and 2011 seasons will be announced later this month using the new ADM numbers. There may be a possibility of the Jays moving to the East side of the state in 5A-3 or 5A-4. More to come in that interesting topic.
Leading the way in overall attendance, once again, was Broken Arrow with an ADM of 4461.85 (increase of 2.52 students from the last ADM). Second in the state was Tulsa Union with 4322.43 (an increase of 102 students) with rival Jenks third on the list with 2903.10. The biggest attended school on the West side of the state is Mustang with 2285.19 and good for the fifth biggest attended school in the state.
Bishop McGuinness tops the list in 4A and was 16-students away from moving up to 5A. The smallest school in 5A now goes to Southeast, who replaces Harrah, with 702.20 students.
Looking at Guthrie's football district this season, the Jays will have just two teams with higher ADM's with Shawnee and Carl Albert. The Titans come in at 43rd (1043.09).
The smallest school in ADM last year was Felt at No. 484 and an average attendance of 14.85 students.
