The Guthrie Booster Club met for the first time, for the upcoming 2008 season, and heard from BlueJay head coach Rafe Watkins and Junior High head coach Jeff Ball.
Watkins reported that the team was in good shape as far as equipment was concern at the present time, but that the junior high needed a water station for practice and eight grade team lockers. The junior high was supplied with 30 new helmets for the season that replaced outdated head wear.
The agenda also included election of new officers. Phil Nichols was selected as President, Merritt Roberts as Vice-President, Sheila Steen as Secretary, and Jeff Chappell as Treasurer. Mary Hudson will continue to over see the BlueJay merchandise that the Booster Club sells.
The meeting marked the first time that both the junior high and high school parents met together since the two combined.
Watkins said not only are parents welcomed to be involved in the Booster Club, but fans as well to help continue to build the BlueJay Football program as one of the best in the state.
"We have the best fans in the state," Watkins said in a podcast following the meeting.
If you would like to become a Booster Club member you can contact any current member, or Watkins. Memberships will remain the same for the 2008 season with $25 per individual and $40 for a family. With an individual membership you receive a free "G" sticker, as the Jays wear on their helmet, and a family membership you receive two free "G" stickers.
