Oklahoma City, Okla. --
The Guthrie Lady Jays tried to prove that it is tough to beat a
team three times in one season, but the zone defense by Western
Heights prevented that from happening.

The Jets defense forced Guthrie out of the
paint as the Lady Jays fired up 30 3-point shots in a 52-37 loss
to end their season.
Western Heights advances to the regional championship game with
Ardmore, who defeated Ada 36-35 in the first game of the
evening.
The Lady Jays did not shoot the ball well from the field (9-56)
and made just six of their 3-point shots, but shot 93% from the
free throw line (13-14) to give themselves a chance until late
in the fourth quarter.
Senior Alexis Daniels hit the games first bucket, but a Jets
3-point shot erased the lead for good. Daniels scored all seven
first quarter points for Guthrie as they trailed 13-7.
Western Heights increased their lead 21-14 in the second
quarter, but two free throws each from senior Kacey Acker and
sophomore Ashley Shields pulled Guthrie within three, 21-18.
Height took a 5-point lead into the locker room.
The Jets kept their distance by outscoring Guthrie 12-10 in the
third, but pulled away with a 13-5 advantage in the final
quarter.
Guthrie ends their season with a 7-17 record. |
