Guthrie, Okla. -- The Lady Jays looked to gain momentum off their big wins at the NEO round-robin tournament this weekend with a win over Western Heights. However, that was not to be as the Jets were able to run away late in the third quarter and put it away for good in the fourth for the 48-28 Western Heights victory inside the Guthrie High School gymnasium.

The first quarter was pushed by defensive intensity.  Guthrie forced Western Heights to miss their first eight shots from the field before Dilan Webster  hit a free throw to give Western Heights  an early 1-0 lead with 4:39 remaining in the quarter.

Western Heights really kept the Guthrie offense on its heels all game long by imploring the full court press. However, after getting down 6-0, Chadd hit a basket underneath to finally put the Lady Jays on the board with 3:13 remaining in the quarter.

In the second quarter, Guthrie was finally able to score a little bit more offensively, while keeping Western Heights within striking distance. Chadd hit a basket with 1:21 remaining in the half to cut the lead to 15-10 Jets. However, Webster and Antoinet Webster were able to score the next four points to push it to a 19-10 Western Heights halftime lead.

In the second half, Jill Davis and Chadd came out scoring four straight points. All of a sudden, Guthrie was within four points at 19-15. After that, something clicked for Western Heights. The Jets outscored Guthrie 15-3 in the final 5:50 of the third quarter.

After all is said and done, Shields led Guthrie with nine points and was named the Farmers and Merchants Player of the Game. The loss drops Guthrie to 4-12 on the season.
