Guthrie, Okla. -- Its
often said sometimes that a final score does not indicate how
close a game was played. Well, that is how you would describe
Guthrie's and Piedmont's girls basketball game Tuesday night at
the GHS gym.

Piedmont improved to 6-5 with a 39-28 win
over the Lady Jays. Guthrie falls to 2-10 and will take part in
the NEO Tournament, in Miami, this week.
The Lady Wildcats got a bucket from Sarah Peoples with :02 left
in the third quarter to take the lead away from Guthrie, 25-24,
going into the final quarter.
Piedmont opened that lead up to five, 29-24, in the first
minute, but senior Kacey Acker's made basket cut the lead to
three with 6:40 to play. However, that was as close as Guthrie
would come.
Piedmont outscored Guthrie 14-4 in the fourth quarter and made
11 of 14 free throws in the last quarter alone.
The Lady Wildcats proved to be more aggressive with double and
triple teams on the defensive end and then attempting 29 free
throws on the night and hitting on 17 of them. Guthrie managed
just a total of four free throws and making just one.
Acker, who saw multiple double and tripe teams down low,
finished with a team high 10 points and was awarded the Farmers
and Merchants Player of the Game.
Next up on the schedule is the 3-4 Grove Ridgerunners, Thursday
evening, at 7:30. Second round game will be with Roland at 6:30
and the third day will take on Durant at 3:00.
