Piedmont, Okla. -- The
Guthrie Lady Jays put themselves in the right spot to pull out a
rare Suburban Conference win, Monday night, in Piedmont, but a
slow third quarter proved to be the difference.

Piedmont outscored the Lady Jays 11-4 in
the third quarter and then held off Guthrie to pick up a 42-36
win. Guthrie falls to 4-14 and Piedmont improves to 11-7.

Heading into the final quarter, Piedmont had built up a 30-23
lead, but junior forward Allyson Chadd scored six straight
points in 1:19 to pull her team within one, 30-29.
The Lady Wildcats put the game away a few minutes later with a
run of their own. A 9-2 run over a span of 5:40 sealed the deal.
Kacey Acker finished as the high scorer for Guthrie and was
named the Farmers and Merchants Bank Player of the Game with 15
points. Acker scored 10 in the first meeting with Piedmont.
Guthrie held an 11-10 advantage after the first quarter, but saw
Piedmont tie the game at the half by making two of three free
throws with no time remaining on the clock. |
