Guthrie, Okla. -- In the first home game of the
season the Guthrie Lady Jays battled tough against a feisty
#11 El Reno Indian squad. However, after a late foul out by
Kacey Acker, the Lady Jays just couldn’t handle the onslaught as
El Reno pulled away in the final minutes 43-35.
The loss dropped the Lady Jays to 2-8 on the
season. El Reno improved to 7-3. To listen to the post game

Starting out the game, senior Alexis Daniels
gave the Lady Jays their first lead, 3-2, of the game hitting a
three point basket with 6:30 remaining in the first quarter.
Stingy defense forced another Indian turnover, allowing junior
Jill Davis to hit a three pointer, giving the Lady Jays the
early 6-2 lead with 5:49 in the first quarter.
El Reno answered back by scoring the next
five points, with Shaela Eden scoring four points in the run.
Giving the Indians a 7-6 lead with 2:01 remaining.
El Reno’s Mirando Marquez hit a basket with
1:08 remaining to give the Indians the 9-8 lead at the end of
the first quarter.
The second quarter was more Lady Jay defense
and consistent offense. Guthrie out scored El Reno 9-6 in
a quarter that was more Lady Jay dominant than the score board
led on to believe.
El Reno’s three point shooting was held in
check for most of the first half hitting a couple of three’s
however. Daniels and Allyson Chadd helped stymie the Indian
attack.
In the second half, the defensive intensity
continued. Led by Acker the Lady Jays battled tough
defensively. Guthrie led by five at one point, leading
24-19 over the Indians.
However, led by Marquez and Charrisa Jones,
the Indians would fight back into it. End of three quarters the
game was tied at 25-25.
Guthrie seemed to have the momentum in the
fourth quarter. Defense was very sharp and offensively they were
starting to get something going. However, at the 3:45 mark,
Acker fouled out of the ball game, and that allowed El Reno to
close the game on a 13-3 run.
Acker was the leading scorer for the Lady
Jays with 16 points before fouling out. Acker was 4-4 from the
charity stripe. Guthrie only had four players score baskets.
Hill of El Reno led all scorers with 18 points, including 7 of 8
from the line.
The Lady Jays will look to get back into the
win column against a tough Lady Antler Deer Creek team Friday
night. The game can be heard on 105.1 FM and on Guthrie Sports
Page.
