Guthrie traveled to Deer Creek, Friday night, and found themselves in foul trouble early and often as a total of three Lady Jays fouled out in a 54-45 loss.

Deer Creek was able to keep their distance by 10 points throughout the second half. Guthrie was able to get within eight a couple of times, but could not get over the hump.

Sophomore guard Ashley Shields hit one of her two three point shots to tie the game at 9-9, but then the Antlers finished the final 2:30 on 9-2 run to go up 18-11 after the first eight minutes.

Shields was named the Farmers and Merchants Player of the Game by scoring 12 points, including shooting 70% from the charity stripe.

Both teams had a hard time finding the bottom of the bucket in the second quarter as a total of seven points were scored.

Allyson Chadd, Jill Davis, and Alexis Daniels were forced to the bench with five fouls. Freshmen Gracynn Smith came off the bench to score eight points and gave Coach Terry Carris some quality minutes.

Daniels did not make her first points until the 5:55 mark in the fourth quarter, but finished with nine of the last 14 Guthrie points.

Guthrie committed to 21 turnovers, but forced 24 on the other end including forcing 18 second half turnovers on the 10th ranked Deer Creek team.

Piedmont comes to the Guthrie High School gymnasium Tuesday night with a tip time of 6:30.
