Jenks Simmons Field House looked familiar for the Guthrie Lady Jays Thursday evening when they returned back to the gym where they won last years regional championship. The El Reno Lady Indians looked familiar as well when the Lady Jays took them down a season ago, but the Lady Indians got even with a 54-34 first round victory to conclude the season for Guthrie.
The Lady Jays end the year with a 6 and 16 record having won two of their last four games.
Perhaps the most telling part of the game was El Reno took 31 3-point shots and the Lady Jays took 34 2-point shots. It was obvious El Reno had the guard advantage and Guthrie had the post advantage, but El Reno caught fire from beyond the arc to begin to open the game.
With the game tied at 9-all with 1:58 to play in the first quarter, El Reno would go on an 18-4 run in the next 8:43 with 15 points resulting in 3-pointers that were highlighted by Charissa Jones and Haley Hill, who both came off the bench.
El Reno (17-7) will play Deer Creek (13-7) for the regional championship, Saturday afternoon, as both teams automatically advance to the area tournament next week. Deer Creek took down Duncan in the prior game, 64-54.
Jessica Peacock, one of five seniors to play their final game, led the Lady Jays with 13 points and 6 rebounds.
