Day 3
The Guthrie Lady Jays dropped their second game of the Duncan Tournament with a loss in the consolation game to Northeast 42-30. Guthrie now stands at 1-3 for the year and will jump back into action, Tuesday night, when they entertain the high power Harrah Lady Panthers. It will be the first home game of the season for Guthrie.
Day 2
The third time was indeed the charm for the Guthrie Lady Jays basketball team and of course it had to be in overtime. However, this time Guthrie got their first win of the new season with a 57-56 win over Western Heights.
Guthrie (1-2) has played all three of their games in overtime to begin the season and now play Northeast, Saturday evening, in the consolation finals of the Duncan Tournament.
In the win over Western Heights, the Lady Jays jumped out to a 13-12 first quarter lead, but the Jets would outscore the Lady Jays 14-6 in the second quarter to go into the locker room on top 26-19. Heights would continue their run in the third quarter by 18 more points in the third quarter to make it a 44-31 lead going into the final quarter of regulation.
But as they did in day one of the tournament against MacArthur, the Lady Jays would go on a huge fourth quarter run to force the extra period with a 20-7 run.
Guthrie outscored their Northern opponent in the Suburban Conference by a 6-5 margin to pull out the victory.
Alexis Daniels led the Lady Jays in scoring with 15 points and both Jessica Peacock and Njemile Miro finished in double figures as well with 10 points. In other scoring Allyson Chadd added 9, Jill Davis with 4, Brittany Berryman finished with 3, and Megan Smith, Jordan Wheeler, and Kacey Acker added two points each.
Day 1
The Guthrie Lady Jays opened up the Duncan Tournament with 13th ranked Lawton MacArthur and it appeared the Lady Highlanders were about to put the Lady Jays down and out for the count, but a fourth quarter run would make it a game.
Despite, a 16-2 fourth quarter run for Guthrie, MacArthur held off the Jays, in overtime, 50-48. Guthrie now stands at 0 and 2 on the year with both losses ending in overtime.
In fact, in the last three games the Lady Jays have played in have resulted in three losses by a combined five points that have come down to the final 10 seconds in all three games: Altus (40-38), Chickasha (32-31), and MacArthur (50-48).
MacArthur's leading scorer Miranda Davis scored the winning basket with just over 10 seconds while the Lady Jays could not find an open shot to tie the game.
Guthrie will, once again, play at 5:30 against Northern Suburban Conference member Western Heights, Friday evening. The Lady Jets lost to the host team Duncan 55-34 in the first round.
A Lady Jay win against the Lady Jets will put them in the 7:00 consolation finals, Saturday night, against either U.S. Grant, or Northeast. A loss will have the Lady Jays playing at 4:00.
Notes: Opening First Round Scores
