Before game one of the Guthrie Lady Jays season, head coach Terry Carris said his Lady Jays team needed to become a better shooting team.
Friday evening at Deer Creek, unfortunately, the coach was proven correct as the Lady Antlers gave the Lady Jays their most lopsided loss of the season with a 54-29 setback. Guthrie falls to 1-5 on the year while Deer Creek improved to 3-3. The 29-points is the lowest output of the season for the Lady Jays. On the young season, Guthrie is averaging 39-points a game while allowing their opponents 49 points.
The Lady Antlers jumped out to a 13-3 first quarter lead and would outscore the Lady Jays, again, by 10 points in the second quarter to go into the halftime locker room with a 29-9 advantage.
In the second half, the Guthrie offense would warm up slightly, but were still out scored 26-20. Eryn Donnelly finished with a team high seven points, Njemile Miro five points, Fatimah Scott and Kacey Acker each had four points, Allyson Chadd and Alexis Daniels added three, Jessica Peacock two, and Brittney Berryman finished with one point.
Guthrie will be off until January 8-10 when they participate in the Chickasha Tournament.
