Terry Carris' Lady Jays salvaged a tournament win on the final day by downing the Duncan Lady Demons in the final day of the Chickasha Tournament, 49-38.
Guthrie breaks their five game losing streak and are now 2-7 and Duncan falls to 4-8. The Lady Demons played in the championship game in their own tournament a few weeks ago, but have dropped their last four games.
Guthrie pulled ahead 39-34 early in the fourth and took over the game as the Lady Jays dominated the boards and got easy buckets in transition. Leading the charge for Guthrie was senior Brittany Berryman (12 points) and Alexis Daniels (11 points).
The Lady Jays trailed heading into the final period, but outscored Duncan 16-6 in the frame to wrap up the win.
The Lady Jays favorite gym is more then likely not the Chickasha Event Center. Of the seven losses this year, three of them have come in Chickasha.
The recent loss was a 46-23 setback to the Chickasha Lady Chicks in the second round of the Chickasha Tournament. Guthrie (1-7) now plays Duncan in the third and final round Saturday morning at 10am. Duncan was defeated by Western Heights Friday afternoon.
The Guthrie Lady Jays suffered their fourth loss in a row in the first round of the Chickasha Tournament 59-37 to the Deer Creek Antlers. Deer Creek earlier this season took down Guthrie on their home floor, 54-29.
Guthrie (1-6) will play Chickasha, Friday, at 12:50 in the second round. Chickasha defeated the Lady Jays 32-31, in overtime, in the first game of the season on the very same floor. The Lady Chicks (2-8) were handed a 44-32 loss to Putnam City.
