After starting the season 2-0 and landing in the championship game in the Duncan Tournament, the Guthrie Lady Jays basketball team surrendered their first loss of the season.
Guthrie defeated Skiatook and Duncan for the right to play El Reno in the finals, but fell short to the Lady Indians 43-34 Saturday night.
Senior Bianca Smith led the scoring for Guthrie with 12 points. Senior guard Emily Davis added eight and the Dwyer sisters, Jessica and Torey, had seven each.
At the end of each quarter the 'Jays would never have a lead, but would trail by no more than four points until the last quarter.
Guthrie, in the season opening tourney, takes home the second place trophy and opens the season in a positive manner under new head coach Terry Carris.
The Lady Jays, over the course of the weekend, averaged 47 points and allowed 42 to the opposition.
Guthrie is set to open conference play on the road, Tuesday, with weather permitting in Harrah. Tip time is 6:30 for the Lady Jays and the Bluejays getting started at 8:15 p.m.
Both games will be broadcasted on Triple Play Sports, 105.1 FM, with the pre-game at 6:00. Chris Evans, Casey Porter, and Shawn Ingle will call the game.
