By: Chris Evans

The Guthrie Lady Jays made it two wins over Duncan for the season, but more importantly advance to the regional championship game on Saturday with a 54-40 win.

Guthrie will play the host team, El Reno, Saturday afternoon after the Lady Indians ended Western Heights season with a 52-33 win following the Guthrie-Duncan game.

Guthrie improves to 12-10 on the season and guaranteed themselves another week of action. Guthrie now plays El Reno for the fourth time this season, Saturday, with a 1:30 tip time with a regional championship trophy up for grabs.

The Guthrie-El Reno winner will be just one win away from the State Tournament in next weeks Area Tournament. Meanwhile, the loser will have to win two games to make State.

Guthrie was led by senior Emily Davis with 27 points and 8 rebounds. Davis accounted for half of the Lady Jays points by shooting 9-19 from the field.

The Lady Jays regained the lead, 17-15, with 4:37 in the second quarter and would never look back. Guthrie went into the half up by five, 26-21, by outscoring Duncan 16-7 in the second quarter after trailing 14-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Duncan ends their season with a 5-18 record and did not helped themselves with their poor shooting performance. The Lady Demons were 14-48 from the field including just 3 of 19 from beyond the arc.

Guthrie lost to El Reno the first time, in the Duncan Tournament finals, 34-43 in the third game of the season. In the second match-up, El Reno won on their home floor 53-45 and the last game won 46-26 in Guthrie.

In the last game, Guthrie was without the full capability of Davis, who suffered a knee injury.
