Many could only guess what possibly would happen when the Lady Jays took on second ranked Carl Albert Lady Titans with Guthrie missing three starters.
Seniors Emily Davis and Bianca Smith were not available for Guthrie as well as junior Brittney Berryman playing limited minutes. Smith is out for the season with an ACL injury suffered, in Harrah, on January 18th. Davis re-injured her knee against Deer Creek last week and Berryman suffered a slight concussion Tuesday night.
Despite losing 61-30, head coach Terry Carris said he was proud of his teams effort throughout the entire game. Guthrie now drops their season record to 9-9 heading into Super Saturday where they play Harrah at Carl Albert High School on Saturday. Carl Albert improves to 17-2
The Lady Jays continue to struggle shooting the basketball by scoring just two points in the first quarter and six points in the second quarter. Against El Reno, on Tuesday, Guthrie could only manage five points at the half.
Carl Albert held Guthrie to 0-9 shooting in the first frame and 2-10 (20%) in the second quarter. However, Guthrie would only trail 20-8 at the half while the Lady Titans made just seven shots on 29 attempts (24%).
The Titans would open the game in the third quarter with 25 points alone and would lead by 25, 45-20.
Guthrie committed 30 turnovers in the loss, but did shot 12-16 from the free throw line.
Lady Jays will be back in action Saturday night when they play the Harrah Panthers on Super Saturday at Carl Albert High School. Guthrie will hit the road again on Tuesday when they visit Noble before returning home to finish the regular season with Shawnee.
