The Guthrie track program got a head start to the 2010 season with the Enid
Indoor Meet, Friday, February 5th.
The defending 5A boys state champions were the only 5A team in the field and
finished 7th out of 15 teams with a score of 30 points. The Lady Jays placed 9th
out of 15th and and were also the only 5A team to compete.
Many of this year's Guthrie cross country state championship members competed in
the field.
The biggest surprise was sophomore Jonathan Ogan, who ran a 9.57.8 in the 3000m.
Jared Ogan was third in the 800 meter with a 2.07.91. Twin brother, Jason Ogan,
was fourth in 1600m in 4.45.81.
Emmanual Robinson finished the highest in the individual runs by placing second
in the 55m with a time of 6.63 and third in the 55m hurdles coming in at 7.95
Guthrie's relay team of Jared Ogan, Zac Cates, Colin Betchan, and Alex Dorio
came across in sixth place with a 8:54.04 in the 4x800 relay.
For the Lady Jays, senior Rachel Roberts ran a 5.32.13 in the 1600 meter and
finished the finish line first. Roberts signed with Harding University earlier
in the week to run track and cross country.
Leslie Hughes did not disappoint either with
a first place finish in the high jump by leaping five feet even.
Hughes also finished third in the triple jump at 30-4 ½. Hughes
won the female individual high point award for the meet.
Both teams will travel back to Enid, on
Friday, inside the Expo Center. It is a 160 meter banked
track, originally used in the Cox Center in OKC.
