The 2009 Guthrie Track season started without senior and two-time high jump state champ Donte' Foster, but the season ended with perhaps the best athlete in Guthrie BlueJay history.

text message bannerThe latter may be a good topic some other day, but Foster put his final stamp of his fabulous high school career by winning his third straight high jump state competition at Moore High School, on Friday afternoon.

Foster, who had to be talked into coming out for track his senior season, jumped 7 feet. Claremore’s Dwayne Goldask also jumped 7 feet but took more attempts than Foster to secure the win. Foster won last years title with a jump of 6-6.

This marks the second week in a row that Foster accomplish a 7 foot jump. Last week he jumped 7 feet at the Edmond Santa Fe regional. Foster competed in just four track events.

Foster was an unanimous All-State football and basketball selection this past fall andDonte' Track Champ winter. Foster was a member of a football state championship team, two basketball state title teams, and has a chance to add track to that resume.

Guthrie holds a lead of 18 points with a team total of 38 points. Shawnee is currently second with a score of 20. The final day is set for Moore Stadium, at Moore HS.

Jared Ogan finished second in the 3200 meter run while Zach Cates came in at third. Southeast's Enrique Benitez won the title by 13 seconds.

The BlueJays finished the 3200 relay in third place behind Shawnee and Collinsville.

Lady Jays currently in 8th place

On a somewhat quiet day one for the Guthrie Lady Jays, they currently holding onto an 8th place standing, but are within 12 points of the top team in Shawnee.

Rachel Roberts was just two seconds behind Tahlequah's Sarah Hix in the 3200 race. Roberts, who suffered a serious knee injury a year ago, will compete in the 800 and 1600 runs.
