Despite being a spring sport, Oklahoma weather does not necessary corporate with tennis and that is what both the boys and girls Guthrie tennis teams found out last Saturday.
Competing in the Guthrie Spring Fling, at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center, Edmond North walked away winners in all the events on the chilly afternoon. The Bluejays finished in a tie for second with Shawnee.
Head coach Mary Hudson said both the No. 1 boys and girls doubles teams did well against the Huskies.
The duo of Hank Hudson and Daniel Breedlove lost to those Huskies in the championship finals 6-3, 6-4 while Janie Nolen and Kaitlyn Wade dropped their match to their 6A opponent in the semi's 6-0 and 7-5.
"They (Nolen and Wade) ended up playing fourth because they lost to Shawnee for the third place match," Mary Hudson said. "They did play Shawnee much better and took them to three sets."
"Hank and Daniel played very well that day, they only lost one game in their first match and only lost one game to Shawnee in the second match," Mary Hudson concluded.
Both Guthrie teams are scheduled to play in Ada this weekend pending on the Oklahoma weather. Naturally.
Update: The Ada Tennis Tournament has been cancelled due to the inclement weather expected this weekend.
