Guthrie boys win 89'er Tournament

The Guthrie BlueJay tennis team got their first team tournament win on the year and did it in fine fashion by winning their own 89'er Tournament held at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center on April 10th. The Lady Jays placed second behind Duncan.

 

Daniel Breedlove and Hank Hudson placed first in No. 1 doubles by defeating Kingfisher in the first round 6-1, 6-0 and then beat Midwest City 6-0, 6-0, in the finals they defeated Norman North 6-2, 6-1. This marks the first tournament win for the duo since the Stillwater Tournament last season.

 

William Bohanan and Josh Wehrenberg also placed first in No. 2 doubles competition by going 3-0. The team defeated Chickasha 6-1, 6-0 in the first round El Reno in the second round 6-4, 6-0 and beat Harrah in the finals 6-1, 6-0.

 

For the Lady Jays in both singles and doubles competition each played for the 89'er championship both fell short in the four matches.

 

Brittney Berryman, at No. 1 singles, defeated Kayla Crawford 6-0, 6-0 and then beat Victoria Rausch from Norman North 6-4, 6-, but lost to Taylor Gardner from Duncan 6-2, 7-6 in the final match.

 

Megan Hickman, in No. 2 singles, defeated Rebecca Romine from El Reno 6-0, 6-0 and then beat Bailee Macon from Harrah 6-2, 6-1 before losing to Katherine Jeffords from Duncan 6-0, 6-4.

 

The partner's of Janie Nolen and Kaitlyn Wade competing in the No. 1 doubles division defeated Harrah in the first round 6-1, 6-0 and beat Duncan in the second round 6-2, 6-1 before losing to Midwest City 6-4, 6-4 in the finals.

 

Brooke Powell and Paige Powell played No. 2 doubles and defeated El Reno 6-1, 6-1 and then beat Duncan 7-5, 6-3. In the finals, it was Midwest City winning 7-6, 7-6.

 

Guthrie will compete in conference tomorrow (April 15th) at Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
