The Guthrie Bluejay tennis teams hit the tennis trail to Oklahoma Christian University on Saturday and the Lady Jays participated in the Deer Creek Tournament on Monday.
For the boys they came away with a 6th place showing while the Lady Jays walked away with the second place trophy as a team with solid outings in both singles and doubles competition.
Kaitlyn Wade playing in No.1 singles placed 4th and Brittney Berryman at No.2 singles took home 2nd place.
In No.1 doubles action, Amy Hudson and Janie Nolen placed 3rd while Brooke Powell and Paige Powell placed 2nd at No. 2 Doubles. The Powell's girls got the jump up to the varsity level after a fine outing in the Ardmore Tournament while playing junior varsity.
Meanwhile, the Bluejays on Saturday saw Hank Hudson and Daniel Breedlove come away with a 4th place finish after defaulting their final match to get to the basketball state championship game according to head coach Mary Hudson.
"They had a great day winning their first two rounds to be in the semi-finals. In the semis, they lost to the No. 1 seed from Edmond Santa Fe 6-0, 6-2. They did not play their match against Broken Arrow so they could get to the game," Hudson said.
In No. 2 doubles action, Julius Gamboa and Christian Lamb placed 8th and took the opening match against Norman before dropping their next three matches.
Michael Oates placed 7th by defeating Dale Shoals, of Hugo, 6-0, 6-0 in the opeing round. In the second round, Oates took on the second seed plaer from Broken Arrow and dropped sets of 6-0, 6-2.
In the third round, Oates lost to Alex Sanchez from Edmond Memorial 6-3, 6-2 before defeating Ryan Rahhal of Norman 6-3, 7-6 in his final match.
Josh Wehrenberg playing in the No. 2 singles division placed 6th. Wehrenberg won his first round in three sets, but inn the second round he lost to Thomas Tran from Westmoore 6-1, 6-2. In the third round, he defeated Zach Myers from Norman 7-5, 6-4 and in the final match lost to Kolton Liller from Duncan 6-3, 6-3.
Mary Hudson says Wehrenbeg continues to get better each outing so far in the young season.
"Josh continues to improve every time he steps on the court."
