Junior Brittney Berryman never dropped a set against her three opponents in the Altus Bridgebuilders Tournament and helped her team finish in 2nd place. The Bluejays as a team finished fourth in the same tourney.
Playing her usual No. 2 singles, Berryman would get wins over Maddie Steen, of El Reno, 6-4, 6-2, Jordon Conover, of Carl Albert, 6-4, 6-2, and in the finals defeated Amanda Gomes, of Durant, 7-6, 6-0.
Head coach Mary Hudson said she was very "proud" with the play of Berryman.
Kaitlyn Wade finished 3rd, in No. 1 singles, by going 1-2 on the day. Wade had received a first round bye.
The doubles team of Amy Hudson and Janie Nolen took home 3rd place in No. 1 doubles action. They defeated Correa and Granados from Chillecothe, Tx 6-3, 6-2. In the second round, they lost to Adams and Barringer, of Ardmore, 6-1, 6-3. For the third place match, they beat McLaurin and Nichols, of Carl Albert, 6-4, 6-1.
In No. 2 doubles, Brooke Powell and Paige Powell finished 5th. The Powell's lost to Meadows and Steen, of Altus, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in the first round. In the second round they beat Dawson and Leimbach, from El Reno, 6-1, 6-0. For the 5th place match they defeated Acevero and Granados, from Chillecothe, TX, 6-2, 6-2.
Bluejays with 4th place finish
Michael Oates playing in No. 1 Singles placed 6th. Oates lost his first match to Timmy Argo, of Ardmore, and then defeated Austin Enge, from Durant, 6-3, 7-6 in the second round. He battled Taylor Wedman, of El Reno, for three sets, but would eventually lose to him 6-1, 1-6, 6-2.
Corey Cain, in No. 2 Singles, placed 6th. He lost his first round to Kyle Takaeh of Skiatook 6-2, 6-3, but in the second round defeated Justin Tate, of El Reno, 6-3, 6-3. Cain in his last match lost to Luke Glazner, of Ardmore, 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles action, Daniel Breedlove and Hank Hudson placed 3rd at No. 1 doubles and William Bohanan and Josh Wehrenberg placed 4th playing in the No. 2 doubles bracket.
Breedlove and Hudson defeated Hill and Knight, of Altus, 6-0, 6-4 and then lost to Rucker and Duthie, of Durant, 6-2, 6-3. For their third place match they defeated Grisham and Harrison of Carl Albert 7-6, 6-1. Mary Hudson says this was a "big" win cause they had lost to Carl Albert earlier in the season.
Bohanan and Wehrenberg beat Garrett and Tidmore, from Chillecothe, Tx, 6-3, 7-6 in the first round. In the second round they lost to Kincheloe and Savage 6-1, 6-2. In their final match, they lost to McSweeney and Thompson, of Ardmore, 6-4, 6-2.
Both teams will play Heritage Hall before getting set for regionals. The girls squad will play the Chargers on Thursday and the guys will take their shot on Friday.
