The Guthrie Lady Jay softball team has been battling rains with three dates washed out due to the Oklahoma rain, but did play five games in the Cushing Tournament and are now taking part in the Perry Tournament.
Guthrie got their first two wins of the season by defeating Tonkawa and Agra. However, dropping three to Pawhuska, Cushing and Depew. Head coach Shelley Berryman feels the two losses with Pawhuska and Cushing should of had different outcomes, but simply did not get the job done at the plate.
"The girls are lacking in confidence at bat," Berryman said.
Berryman did say that the defense has come a long ways and that they are playing more like a team. Berryman also went on to say that Kacie Acker and Jamie Poplin have given them quality innings in the pitching circle.
The Guthrie Lady Jays will participate in the Perry Tournament this week with games against Blackwell, Chisholm, Perry, Ardmore, Edmond North, and a team to be named later. For a complete look of the tournament and 2008 schedule visit the Lady Jays home page here at GSP.com.
Note:
Before leaving for the Perry Tournament, the Guthrie Lady Jays received a $500 donation from the Tyler Nichols Heart of a Champion Memorial Foundation. The donation will go towards an ice machine for the program.
