The good news first. The Guthrie Lady Jays soccer team advanced to the second round of the play-offs, but the bad news is the Bluejays season came to an end in Durant.
The Bluejays, who were in the play-offs for the first time since 1998, dropped a 6-1 decision to the 5th ranked Durant Lions. Durant improves their record to 12-1 on the year while the Jays finish 6-7. The Bluejays were ranked 15th going into the match-up.
Meanwhile, the 7th ranked Lady Jays escaped with a 2-1 win over the Ada Cougars, in Guthrie, Tuesday night. The Lady Jays will now play Deer Creek, on Friday, once again in Edmond.
Deer Creek, who is ranked 4th, won 7-0 and improved their record to 12-1 and will host the Lady Jays for the second round of the play-offs. Guthrie moved their record to 11-3.
With the win over Ada it marks the third time that the Lady Jays have taken down Ada this season.
Other second round match-ups in Class 5A will feature Carl Albert vs Duncan, Tulsa Washington vs Bixby, and Bishop Kelly vs Skiatook. The winners of Guthrie-Ada and Bishop Kelly-Skiatook will play in one of the two semi-final games Tuesday, May 6th.
