The Jays cross country team has won each team race they have competed in this season, including this weekend's OSU Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater. The win in Stillwater marks six wins in six races for the top ranked BlueJays.

The Jamboree held 12 different races that ranged from college to junior high and fielded over 1400 runners combined.

Tarter said that he has never had a team start out this way in all of his years coaching at Guthrie. Tarter and former GHS principal Earl Sykes helped start the cross country program several decades ago and to this day is one of the top programs in the state.

Leading the charge for the Jays was senior Jason Ogan, who finished with a time of 17:01, with a finish of 12th place overall in a field that almost 250 runners in the 5A/4A division. Hunter Sallee was the second Jay to cross the line as the 14th finisher with a time of 17:10.

The top two spots were held by Canyon High School based out of Texas.

Zack Cates (21st), Jared Ogan (22nd), Jonathan Ogan (26th), Colin Betchan (44th), and Kolt Rineheart (59th) helped pace the Jays to victory.

Overall, Guthrie finished with 86 total points while second place Canyon HS finished with 121 team points.

Deer Creek, who is expected to push the Jays for the 5A state title and is currently ranked second, finished third with a score of 128. 3rd ranked Bishop McGuinness is also expected to compete for the title finished sixth overall with a team score of 177.

In the girls 3200 meter run, Guthrie's Rachel Roberts finished 13th overall with a time of 12:12 and was the sixth Oklahoma girl to cross the line. Chelsey Seinsson from Greenhill School won the race with a ridiculous time of 10.31.

Guthrie will compete in another big run this Friday (October 9th) at the pre-state race to be held on the Mitch Park course, in Edmond, that will host the state championships.

Guthrie is the defending 5A Track and Field state champions and last won a cross country boys title in 1994. In total, the boys program has won five team titles and the girls program has won one back in 2003.
