Roberts wins Lindsay Invitational

By: Chris Evans

Senior Amanda Davis got hers and now sophomore Rachel Roberts has hers. Roberts competed and won the two mile Lindsay Invitational on Saturday.

While Roberts picks up the win, Davis had a second place finish just seconds behind Roberts. Davis won the Weatherford Sand Plum Invitational run on September 1st and Roberts placed second in that race. As a team, the Guthrie Lady Jays had a sixth place finish.

The boys’ team had two medal place finishers in sophomore Jason Ogan and junior Zack Cates.

Earlier in the week on Thursday afternoon, Guthrie competed in the Putnam City Divisional. A divisional race puts freshmen competing against other freshmen, sophomores against fellow sophomores, juniors versus juniors, and seniors versus seniors. The men ran a three mile race and the women ran a two mile race.

In the ninth grade race, Guthrie’s Cates finished fifth with a time of 19:50 which was 1:07 behind Western Heights winner in Alex Harrison.

In the girl’s sophomore division, Sydney Penrod and Almonde Alpuen medaled with a fifth and sixth place, respectively. On the boys side, Jason Ogan had a top 10 finish by finishing in ninth place.

Sarah McWhiuter had a time of 16:32 which was good for a seventh place finish in the junior division. Behind McWhiuter in tenth place was Lauren Ellis with a time of 17:51.

In the senior division, Guthrie’s Angela Rundell and Britney Trimberger finished third and fourth. Rundell had a run time of 15:02 and Trimberger followed one second later.

Guthrie will compete in perhaps one of the strongest meets in the state when they travel to Edmond for the 13th annual Edmond Dog Pack at Edmond’s J.L. Mitch Park. The Dog Pack will have races of A/2A/3A and 4A/5A. Race time for the 4A/5A girls is 11:45 a.m. and the boys’ race is set for noon.
