Jays Season Sprints Closer

By: Chris Evans

The 2007 Guthrie Cross Country season is just a few sprints away, for both the high school and junior high teams, with the first meet to be held in Guthrie on August 25th.

The Guthrie Cottonwood Flats Invitational will host the season’s first event beginning at 8 a.m. The invitational is a decade old meet and continues to build momentum with more and more teams joining. Head coach Clay Tarter said once again this years Invitational will have quality runners as in years past.

Tarter mentioned that the Class 5A teams will run against each other while classes 4A and below will compete together. The ladies will run a one mile race while the boys will run a two mile course.

Practices are being held at 7:30 at the high school track, located behind Guthrie High School, in the mornings until school begins on August 20th. Although, if you were to ask runners and coaches, majority of runners run all season long to stay in competitive shape for an upcoming season.

The schedule has not been finalized for the 2007 season, but the OSU Jamboree and Chili Pepper Run in Fayetteville, Arkansas are definitely on the schedule.

Anyone interested in joining the 2007 team should contact Tarter before any practice, or call Guthrie High School at 282-5906.
