Dog Pack run proves to be tough as expected

By: Chris Evans

When you have to look down the page to find sophomore Rachel Roberts and senior Amanda Davis to find where they finished in a race you know it must be a talented field. That was the case when Guthrie High School cross country teams competed in the Edmond Dog Pack Run in Edmond.

Roberts would cross the line in 11th place with a time of 12:46, and Davis crossed eight seconds later for a 16th place finish. Westmoore’s Katelin Cherry won the race with a time of 11:51.

As a team, the Lady Jays finished in 11th place in a field that was filled with 6A and 5A schools. McGuinness’s Molly Fergunson and Deer Creeks Hillarie Kessler were the only 5A runners to place ahead of Roberts. Edmond North won the meet.

Angela Rundell, Bailey Trimberger, Sydney Penrod, Laren Gaudreau, and Sarah McWhirter all ran for Guthrie.

Meanwhile in the boys race, Guthrie finished 16th as a team. Jason Ogan was the first Jay to cross the line, and Zack Cates was .30 of a second behind Ogan. James Arkenburgh, Steven Bisig, Bryon Hilsson, and Andy Blank all ran in the talented field as well.

Tulsa Union won the boys event and was led by the winner Steven Baker.
