As state wide TV, and a lot of media attention awaited another great game in the long line of Guthrie Carl Albert classics, a smaller than expected crowd filed in Thursday Night. Many things were a shock to the Bluejay system, with attendance being at the top of the list.

Attendance Thursday Night was no where near what one would expect for this type of game, and people filed out in droves at halftime. Why? Well, let’s look at the obvious reason.

With other schools already instituting rules against T.V. for home games, if fans continue to stay home and watch the games on T.V., more and more schools might follow suit.

Surely Guthrie fans haven’t been the only guilty party, as Carl Albert’s crowd was much smaller than expected as well. One would have to assume it was because they could stay home and take in the action from the comfort of their recliner. And, this is a bigger trend than one might think.

As previously stated, some schools have instituted a no T.V. for home games policy, and it is not a ridiculous notion that other schools will follow suit. Why not, what does the school get out of T.V. exposure? Does it increase your athletic budget? No! Does it help with recruiting due to added exposure? I certainly hope not. So, the question is, what reason do schools have for allowing T.V. for home games? The Answer: Very few at the most.
