ATTENTION BLUEJAY FAITHFUL: The sky is not actually falling.
Seems like after an 0-2 start, the town of Guthrie seemed in panic and disarray.
However, with Bryan Dutton and Co. finally righting the ship seems hope for a
district championship seems returned to Guthrie.
Now, with a 1-0 district record, Guthrie is just three victories away from
qualifying for the 5A state playoffs. With Ardmore, Harrah, Noble, and Capitol
Hill still remaining on the schedule, Guthrie
should be favored in those games. Allowing Guthrie to at least with five wins in
district play. Carl Albert and a road trip to Shawnee will be a tougher task.
5A football reminds me of college football. You have your power houses; Booker
T., Carl Albert, Guthrie, Tulsa East Central, and Bixby all losing early (some
often). The race for state is wide open as it's going to get.
Harrah was a
fumbled 3rd and goal away from being 3-0 for the first time since 1967, yet
Shawnee blasted them 48-0. Carl Albert seems to become dumbfounded when playing
Booker T., 1-5 in their last six against the Hornets. Then, Booker T., the over
whelming favorite to win state. Some experts said they had the talent to compete
with Jenks and Union, comes in blasting East Central (28-7)
and Carl Albert (27-6). Then 6A's Broken Arrow and Tulsa Bishop Kelley
demolished the Hornets, showing that they are human after all.
After week 4, only a handful of undefeated teams remain. McAlester, Ada, Pryor,
El Reno, Shawnee, Tulsa Kelley. McAlester and Ada will play each
other and East
Central. Pryor and Kelley still have to play, and Bixby is still on the schedule.
Pryor has to go through Booker T, too. Shawnee hosts Carl Albert and Guthrie. El
Reno plays an always tough Lawton MacArthur team.
Now Guthrie reminds me a lot of the University of Oklahoma. Hungry for another
title, not used to losing. Both of those two great attributes can be deadly when
mixed with a few losses.
The Sooners stunned by BYU, thought their season was over after Sam Bradford
went down and lost to the Cougars. Now they're 2-1 and sitting at #8 in the
nation.
Guthrie lost to #2 (5A) El Reno and #2 (4A) Bishop McGuiness, and some were
questioning Rafe Watkins and his decisions. However, after two straight wins and
could be 4-2, 3-0 with headed into a match up with rival Carl Albert. Then we
head to Shawnee. Then we should finish with Noble and Capitol Hill. See, five
wins ALMOST guaranteed.
So have faith Guthrie, your young, yet very talented Guthrie football team has a
bright season ahead.
Now a few predictions:
Prediction #1: Guthrie will finish 7-3, 6-1. We split with Shawnee and Carl
Albert.
Prediction #2: A three way tie for the district championship. Guthrie splits
with Carl Albert, Shawnee to make everyone 6-1.
Prediction #3: Guthrie finishes in third place based off point district
differential. Guthrie's offense isn't going to dominate like a Shawnee, but our
defense will allow us to win a lot of ball games. Most likely playing Lawton
MacArthur or El Reno on the road in the first round of the play-off's.
BOLD PREDICTION: Class 5A will have no undefeated teams when the season is over.
BOLD PREDICTION #2: Class 5A's champion will have two or more losses.
