The Guthrie BlueJay wrestling squad improved to 7-1 on the dual season with a 46-21 win over the Yellowjackets of Kingfisher High. The Junior Jays got into the win column as well with a dominating 60-21 win to finish their season at 7-1 that included a North division championship.

The varsity picked up three decision wins, three forfeits, and three pins to secure the win on Senior Night inside the GHS gymnasium. Guthrie has now won five duals in a row.

In the eight duals, Guthrie is averaging 50 points while giving up an average of just 20.

Guthrie took control of the match in the lower and middle weights, but Kingfisher took advantage in the larger weights with wins in the top four weights. The Yellowjackets got three decisions and one pin.

Justin Ball, Jared Ball, and Dennis Murphy received forfeits while Camden Helm, Ryan Kitch, and Kolt Rinehart.

Helm got his pin 2:23 into the match while Kitch needed 1:27 and Rinehart needed 1:34.

Bryan Dutton (140), who finished second in Junior High State over the weekend, continued his strong freshmen campaign with a 14-1 major decision.

Jeff Russell (145) got by his opponent with a narrow 5-4 decision and Devin Bilyeu, at 160, picked up a 4-1 win.

The Jays Junior High team got a Nikki Herbst win by fall in 1:55 to start the dual in the right direction for the Junior Jays.

Timothy and Austin O'Conner both pinned their opponent in under a minute. Terry Blue got a third period fall, followed by Brent Berryhill's pin in the second period of his match.

Hunter Bechan, Shane Cantrel, Elijah Prince and Dalton Marshall at heavyweight all received forfeits. Elijah wrestled an exhibition match which he won by fall in :41.

Head coach Eric Woodard was very pleased with his team this season, "It was a very good year for the team. The coaches are needing more wrestlers to come out to make next season even better."
