The Guthrie Junior High wrestled Piedmont, on Thursday, to determine the conference winner on the north side of the Suburban Conference. Guthrie won the dual 41-30 to claim the north for the second straight season.

Nikki Herbst started off with a fall in 1:26 at 78 to give the Jays a 6-0 lead. Piedmont responded with a fall at 86 to tie the score at six.

Piedmont got a pin at 94 to get the lead 12-0 before Timothy O'Conner picked up an 11-0 major decision, at 102, to make the score 12-10 Piedmont.

Austin O'Conner followed at 110 with an 8-2 decision to give the lead back to the Jays 13-12. Piedmont got a fall at 118 to give them six more points. At 126, Shane Cantrel got the 8-0 major to give Guthrie four points and close to within one.

Piedmont got 12 points with a fall, at 134, and a forfeit at 142 to make the score 30-17. Andrew Toney got a pin in1:46 in the 152 match to give the Jays another six points.

The most exciting match of the night came at 165 with Terry Blue, of Guthrie, getting a very hard fought pin in 3:28. Blue was taken down to his back very early in the match, but was able to reverse his opponent to his back to even the score before being taken down to his back again, then managed an escape with a couple of seconds left in the first period where he trailed 10-6. Piedmiont chose the neutral position to start the second period, where Blue got the takedown and the fall to make the dual score 30-29 with two matches left.

Brent Berryhill picked up the pin, at 185, in 1:58, and Blake Finley got a 1:46 pin to close out the dual. With the Junior Jays winning the north, again, they will now wrestle Harrah to determine the conference championship, on Monday, weather permitting.

The Junior Jays also wrestled Jefferson Middle School before the Homecoming activities Thursday. The Jays won 51-20 with fall by Timothy O'Conner (:16), Elijah Prince (1:26), Andrew Toney (1:52), and Terry Blue (1:45). Shane Cantrel got a technical fall (16-1) at 126, while Blake Finely got a 2-1 win at heavyweight.

The Junior High competed in the Junior High All-State wrestling tournament over the weekend inside the State Fair Arena.

Bryan Dutton finished second, at 138, in a 46 man bracket against a tough competitor from Edmond North High School. Timothy and Austin O'Conner reached the consolation quarterfinals before loosing hard fought matches. Other competing were Shane Cantrel, Andrew Toney, Blake Finley, Ethan Selanders, Jeremiah Parrick, Dalton Marshall, and Brent Berryhill, who wrestled three matches on an injured knee.

Head coach Eric Woodard appreciated the following his Junior Jays had throughout the season, "The Junior High wrestling team has worked very hard this season and would like to thank the fans that showed up all of the duals to show their support. It was greatly appreciated."
