The Guthrie BlueJay wrestling team took on their second tournament of the season in the Southern Oklahoma Invitational, in Duncan, and came away with a first place medal in the championship round.

Overall, Guthrie came away with a fifth place finish with 151.5 team points. Commanche High School won the tourney by edging out last years winner and host Duncan Demons, 190 to 189. Lawton finished third (170.5) and Noble (154.5) walked away in fourth.

Freshmen Bryan Dutton competed in the 135 weight class and got a 3-1 decision over Lawton's Daniel Turkelson in the championship round for the individual championship. Last week Dutton won the Putnam City individual title in the 140 pound division.

Dutton's other match this season was an exhibition in the  Perkins dual when he earned a pinned 1:28 into the match. Dutton is now 9-0 on the season.

Kolt Rinehart and Ryan Kitch joined Dutton in the championship round, but both came up short with losses in their final match. Rinehart lost an 8-2 to Durant's Trey Bowman and Duncan's Justin Hughes got a pin over Kitch 4:50 into the match in the 125 weight division.

The BlueJays sent four wrestlers into the consolation round, but managed just one win with Michael Conner's 7-2 decision over Duncan's Halston Marshall at 171 pounds to finish third overall.

Jays Jeff Russell, Landry Chappell, and John Davison each finished fourth overall in their class. Chappell participated for the first time this season and was handed a 3-1 setback to Duncan's Ben Copeland in the 215 weight class.

Next up for the Jays after the holiday break will be the Northwest Classen and Putnam City Dual on January 7th in Oklahoma City.
