Fat Tuesday was a good day for senior John Kane and his head coach Jack O'Connor.

Kane got the call that he will be entered in the 88th Oklahoma High School Wrestling Championships, in the 189 weight pound division.

The State Tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds. Competition on Friday begins at 10:30 and Kane is expected to hit the mat at 1:00. Kane will join Ryan Bilyeu as the two entries for the Guthrie BlueJays.

Kane will match-up with the No. 1 seed in Carl Albert's Zach Aylor and will either face Chickasha's Colton Hill, or Gabrion Frazier of Shawnee in his next match.

On the season, Kane dropped his one and only match with Aylor, 4-2, in a great match of the Suburban Conference rivals. Kane is 3-0 versus Frazier and lost his only match with Hill.

Kane enters with a 29 and 10 record, Aylor is 30-1, Hill is 33-5, and Frazier is 21-9 on the year.

"He was fired up when he got the call," head coach Jack O'Connor said Thursday afternoon. "Being a senior he has a chance because he has beaten some people."
