Fresh off a homecoming win over Ada, the Guthrie BlueJay wrestling squad headed over to Cushing for the highly competitive Cushing Tournament and in the process the BlueJays landed four in the finals.
Senior and top ranked Ryan Bilyeu walked off the mat with a 4-3 decision over Blanchard's Hill to capture the 145 pound division title. The 1-point decision was the closes match for Bilyeu this season. The prior was a 13-4 decision earlier this season.
Cushing's Ty Fittje pinned his way to victory in the 119-pound division while BlueJay Kolt Rinehart finished sixth by falling to a 12-6 decision to second ranked Bryant Preston of Deer Creek.
The match of the tournament came at the 125 weight class when Perry's Ladd Rupp defeated Cushing's Jarrod Patterson, 3-1, to claim the championship. Both wrestlers are 3-time state champions. Perry captured the team title over Cushing and Deer Creek.
Freshmen Jay Landry Chappell competed at 171 and finished sixth with a 5-1 decision loss to Kingfisher's Blundell.
John Kane wrapped up a fourth place finish in the 189 division with a 4-2 set back to Sperry's Carr.
Guthrie will be back in action Thursday evening when they entertain Deer Creek at the high school gymnasium.
