GuthrieSporsPage.com previews each of Guthrie's 2010 opponents.

Guthrie, Okla. -- As the BlueJays prepare for the upcoming football season, GuthrieSportsPage.com prepares you with everything you'll need to know about the opposition.

In the coming weeks, we will take an in-depth look at each of Guthrie's 2010 opponents with stat breakdowns, players to watch and keys to the game. Next up, Ponca City Wildcats

G Header logo  Game Buildup
Perhaps the game of the week to start the high school football season. It has everything you could ever want inside The Rock.

You will have two teams easily ranked in the Top 5, if not the Top 3, you have a rematch of last season's opening round game of the playoffs, Division I athletes galore with four players labeled as the top six players in the state, and two head coaches that everyone mentions as some of the best in the state. Add that with all the media, scout, and fan attention that this game will receive and you see why its one of the best.

G Header logo  Season Outlook
Duncan is the favorite to win the district in 5A-2 this season after nearly winning it last season. The Devils will have plenty of star power and depth to contend for the gold ball come December.

The Demons may have the best offensive line in 5A and return both running backs and their quarterback and all they did was lead 5A in rushing yards in 2009.

Duncan will need to improve the passing game to achieve their biggest goal as well as replace some players on the defensive side of the ball around their strong nucleus. Some offensive players may need to play defense.

Dylan Dismuke (6'7, 302, Sr.) OL
Dylan Laurens (6'4, 285, Sr.) OL
Domonique Petties (6'1, 208, Sr.) LB
Tyler Wilkins (5-10, 194) DB
Brandon Wilson (5-11, 196, Jr.) QB

Do what they did on November 13th 2009 and hold down the Demon's running game. That night it was 96 yards and to do it again will be a strong task in the first game of the season. If Duncan can run the ball successfully they will do so on every play. Stop the running game and the Jays have a chance to start the season at 1-0, but if they don't stop it then it may be another grueling game that comes down to the final seconds.

Guthrie's running game showed flashes against Bixby in the state semi's and they will need that type effort to help the Jays collect the win. The Demon secondary are athletic to stay with the Jays skill players down the field so it may depend on the running backs and short passing game to come away with the win.

G Header logo  Game Implications
Game has no reflections on the playoffs, but it does in the confidence category and it kick starts the season on an up beat. Start out 1-0 with a quality win will help either team throughout the season and then come playoff time knowing they have a great win on the schedule.
