2009 Opponent Preview: Carl Albert Titans

GuthrieSporsPage.com previews each of Guthrie's 2009 opponents.

Guthrie, Okla. -- As the BlueJays prepare for the upcoming football season, GuthrieSportsPage.com prepares you with everything you'll need to know about the opposition.

In the coming weeks, we will take an in-depth look at each of Guthrie's 2009 opponents with stat breakdowns, players to watch and keys to the game. Next up, Carl Albert Titans on October 15th, at Jelsma Stadium, in Guthrie.

    Game Buildup
A match-up that the state has begun to follow closely over the last few years as it generally decides the district championship and play-off positioning. Titans return back to Jelsma for the first time since 2006.

Rafe Watkins' teams are 5-3 against Gary Rose and the best team does not necessary win this game.
    Season Outlook
The Titans are winners of 7 of the last 12 5A state championships and will have the same type goals on their mind and will have their battle proven quarterback back on their sidelines.

Titans will have to replace the all around tailback David Oku on offense and defensive all-star Daytawion Lowe on defense. However, Titans will be stacked in the secondary and will be the favorites to win the district, again.

    Player to Watch
JT Realmuto| QB | Senior

Other Key Players: Tre Porter, Markell Walker

    Key vs. Carl Albert's Offense
The Titans will insert a new running back, but Guthrie must be careful with Realmuto throwing the ball to Porter, who had over 300-yards receiving to go along with four TD's. Titans will and want to run the ball the majority of the time, but Jays must be ready for the pass.

    Key vs. Carl Albert's Defense
The Titans will have to replace some key players from a year ago including Lowe, Christian Smith, Ozell Littelon, and Zach Aylor, but bring back six starters to the defense, including perhaps the best secondary in the district.

Jays will have to get the running game working early and not have to depend on the pass. The best defense usually wins this game.

    Game Implications
A win here for either team gives them a win over the rival and tons of confidence for the rest of the season, but the loser knows its not the end of the season.
