2009 Opponent Preview: Ardmore Tigers

GuthrieSporsPage.com previews each of Guthrie's 2009 opponents.

Guthrie, Okla. -- As the BlueJays prepare for the upcoming football season, GuthrieSportsPage.com prepares you with everything you'll need to know about the opposition.

In the coming weeks, we will take an in-depth look at each of Guthrie's 2009 opponents with stat breakdowns, players to watch and keys to the game. Next up, Ardmore Tigers on October 2nd, at Jelsma Stadium, in Guthrie.

    Game Buildup
Ardmore will travel to G-Town with last years game on their mind. The Tigers thought they had a great chance at the Jays, but was shut-out 34-0 and a victory over the Jays this season might land them in the play-off's.

Tigers could be 1-0, in district, with a possible home win over Noble the prior week.

    Season Outlook
Larry McBroom returns back to the sidelines for the second year and that has the Tiger faithful very happy. The legendary coach brings back now 3-year starting quarterback Reed Downing.

A tough non-district schedule will have Ardmore ready for 5A-2 that saw the season come to an end in Durant for what was a play-off berth.

    Player to Watch
Downing Reed | QB | Senior

Other Key Players: Trey Cohee, Ruben Tiller

    Key vs. Ardmore's Offense
The offensive line was hit with graduation and lost some size, but Reed will make up for that along with running backs Cohee and Raymont Willis. The Jays front seven must contain the trio, but must be careful with Reed's ability to throw the ball.

    Key vs. Ardmore's Defense
Tiller is perhaps one of the top cornerbacks in the district, but he has plenty of help in the secondary. The Jays will have to use a ground control game and some underneath passing and take advantage of the new and and lack of depth Tiger linebackers.

    Game Implications
Another one of those games the Jays need to help play-off positioning and protect the home field. Ardmore would enjoy spoiling that with a win and putting last years game behind them.
