| Brothers plays defensive end in high
school, but most colleges want him as a linebacker. |
At 6-foot-nothing, 207-pounds, Brothers is
built more like a safety than a linebacker, the position he's
being recruited for. But Brothers plays neither of those
positions. For Guthrie high school, in Oklahoma, Brothers plays
defensive end.
And he plays it well, despite being undersized. As a junior,
Brothers totaled 95 tackles which included 17 sacks and 20
tackles-for-loss. He does drop back into coverage occasionally,
mainly when there were three receivers on his side of the field.
That's where his instincts take over -- his four interceptions
lead his team last season.
"I don't mind playing anywhere," Brothers said. "But, if I play
outside linebacker, I think I have more of a chance to get
loose."
Plenty of colleges are realizing Brothers' versatility on
defense, and on offense. As a wide receiver, Brothers finished
the season with over 1,000 yards receiver. But, only one school
has come calling with an official offer: Missouri.
"It surprised me," Brothers said. "I was getting ready to call
coach (Josh) Henson to talk, and then I heard that they offered
me. I wasn't expecting it, and I just kept thanking him. I was
pretty speechless."
In addition to Missouri, Brothers is hearing from schools all
across the nation, from Washington to Michigan. Of course, he's
also hearing from the Big Three in Oklahoma -- OU, Oklahoma
State and Tulsa.
While he's familiar with his home-state schools, Brothers said
he knows quite a bit about Missouri.
"I know a few of the coaches," Brothers explained. "I went to
their camps. I haven't been to the school, but I heard it's
beautiful. I watch their football team a lot when they're on
TV."
Brothers admitted he's not in a hurry to make a decision, but he
said the Tigers will be in the picture for the long run.
"They're the first team that I ever talked to," Brothers said.
"I'm real, real comfortable with coach Henson. Missouri seems
like a good place to be."
