I have already seen
a number of Oklahoma prospects in the Class of 2011 play in
person and one of my favorites is Guthrie's Kentrell Brothers.
The 6-1, 205-pound Brothers plays on both sides of the ball but
you could easily see him in Oklahoma State's defense as a "star"
linebacker with his speed and ability to make plays sideline to
sideline.
Brothers is
currently playing basketball for the Blue Jays and is averaging
15.1 points and five rebounds a game. In football recruiting he
already has his first offer from the University of Missouri and
former OSU player and coach and current Tiger offensive line
coach Josh Henson.
"It's really kind of cool so far," said Brothers of recruiting.
"Missouri was my first offer and it's the only one so far, but I
have heard from OSU, OU. I heard from Washington the other day.
Then there is Texas Tech, Tulsa, Kansas State, and Kansas. There
are several others too.
"I'm thinking I will take it as it comes and in my senior year
check out all the schools and see which one I am the most
comfortable with. I'll admit I really grew up cheering for both
OU and OSU."
Brothers has been to one junior day (at OU) and wanted to make a
couple of others but the weather interfered with planned trips
to Stillwater and Columbia, Mo.
"I went to the junior day at OU and that was good," said
Brothers. "We got to see the new locker rooms, eat with the
coaches, and go to a basketball game. It was good. I'm hoping to
go to Oklahoma State later this month and maybe Missouri."
Last season at Gurthrie, Brothers earned second team All-State
and All-Big City honors with 95 tackles, 17 sacks, four
interceptions, and a fumble recovery. On offense he had 62
catches for 1,122 yards and 12 touchdowns.
He said he will get back in the gym and train for football as
soon as basketball season is over. He feels good about his
upcoming senior football season. Brothers is also a good student
and he is currently working on finding a major.
"I don't know right now but I am talking to my counselor and we
are looking at different stuff in trying to decide a major," he
said.
Brothers is very much at ease, and he should be because he will
have plenty of options to stay close to home and to go out of
state if he wants to. This guy is flat out a good football
player.
