BlueJays on the gridiron for 3-day camp

The BlueJays are enduring a 3-day camp this week at Faver Alternative School

The Guthrie BlueJay football team is more then a month away from football practice and this week the Jays are "learning" as they participate in the 2009 Guthrie BlueJay Football Camp.

Head coach Rafe Watkins summed up this camp very simply, "lots of learning."

The team will finish the 3-day camp, on Thursday, at Faver Alternative School. The camp runs from 8am until noon each day.

The camp was moved due to new sod being laid down at the GHS practice field. The field had been

worn down due to both the football teams and soccer teams practicing and playing.

"Lots" of learning comes from the Jays losing key positions on offense, defense, and special teams. To read more in depth about what the Jays will be looking for in the fall click here.

Outside of the camp, Guthrie continues with M.T.X.E. (summer weight program), the passing league in Edmond, and will take part in the Prague Passing Jamboree this Friday and Saturday.

Prague is the hometown of Watkins and secondary coach Robbie Rainwater. Former BlueJay offensive coordinator, Chuck Atchison is the current head coach of the Prague Red Devils.

Guthrie wrapped up their first of three passing league nights, in Edmond, with two more scheduled tomorrow (Thursday) and the following Tuesday (14th).

The team will have equipment check-out on August 10th and officially hitting the practice field on the 11th starting at 7:00 am.
