6-foot-2 and 205-pound athlete Kentrell Brothers from
Guthrie, Oklahoma, is hearing from college football
programs all over the nation, including the University
of Tulsa. The 2011 prospect plays defensive end and wide
receiver for the Blue Jays, making big plays on both
sides of the ball, and he discussed his interest in the
Golden Hurricane.
"Recruiting is going well," he said. "I've recently
received letters from Alabama and Arkansas, and I've
been on several unofficial visits to Iowa, Oklahoma
State and Oklahoma. I'm hearing quite a bit from Texas
Tech, Missouri and Colorado.
"I'm interested in Tulsa as well. I had the chance to
watch them play on my OU visit. I heard from Tulsa
earlier in the year and also attended their one-day
camp. I lived in Tulsa before moving to Guthrie. I
attended William Penn elementary when I was younger."
The time that Brothers spent on the Tulsa campus last
summer gave him a good look at the Hurricane program,
and Head Coach Todd Graham made a big impression.
"It was during my one day camp visit that my interest
peaked for the University of Tulsa," he explained.
"Before we began the camp, Coach Graham addressed us.
The first thing he said was 'after I see your film and I
visit your school, I'm going to ask your peers about
your character, not how great of a football player they
think you are.' That meant a lot to me, because my
family has always stressed to me how character defines a
person.
"Coach Graham also went on to state the student-athlete
graduation ratio, which was very high."
Brothers is yet to receive his first official written
offer, but he expects that to happen soon.
"Nothing set in stone as of yet with offers, but I
expect the coming months to see a few offers in
writing," he added.
Brothers was all over the field as a junior this season,
which led to his first-team All-State selection. He
finished with 95 tackles, including 17 sacks, to help
the Bluejays reach the Class 5A semifinals. He also had
four interceptions, including one for a touchdown, and
two fumble recoveries. On offense, Brothers had 62
catches for 1,122 yards and 12 scores.
As a sophomore in 2008, Brothers made 91 tackles,
including 15 sacks. He also forced two fumbles and
recovered three others. On offense, he caught 33 passes
for 603 yards and 9 touchdowns.
