Earlier in the week senior Dustin Bohanan was announced as one of the Oklahoma
Coaches Association All State selections and a few days later four of his
teammates were honored as well.
The Oklahoman and Tulsa World announced their All State and All City teams and
between the two largest newspapers in the state the Guthrie BlueJays had four
players recognized.
Headlining the selections was junior playmaker Kentrell Brothers as he grabbed
first team All State for the Tulsa World, Oklahoman's second team All State, and
first team All City for The Oklahoman. Brothers was not qualified for the OCA
All State selection as it is for seniors only.
Brothers had 95 tackles,
including 17 sacks, to help the Bluejays reach the Class 5A semifinals and
finished with an 8-5 record. Brothers had four interceptions, including one for
a touchdown, and two fumble recoveries. On offense, had 62 catches for 1,122
yards and 12 TDs.
Brothers was joined by sophomore Landry Chappell on The Oklahoman's All City
team and All State honorable mention for both papers.
Chappell burst onto the scene a year ago as a freshman finished with a team-high
170 tackles (2nd in 5A) with seven sacks and has already played in five post
season games for Guthrie. Chappell is on pace to finish with 400 career tackles.
Chappell's cousin, senior Jaden Chappell, was named All City honorable mention
by the OKC paper and All State honorable mention by the Tulsa World. Jaden
Chappell, who finished just one vote shy as the 5A-2 defensive player of the
year, had 145 tackles along with two sacks, two interceptions, and three
touchdowns in his senior campaign.
Bryan Dutton, who quarterback the Jays to the state semi's, was named to The
Oklahoman's All City honorable mention as a freshmen. Dutton
finished with 2,535 all purpose yards, including 2,101 passing yards and 26
passing scores. The frosh had numbers that rivaled many upperclassmen in the
state and appears to be headed for more post season honors in upcoming seasons.
