The Guthrie BlueJays will honor 19 senior football members,
Friday night, as they play their final home game of the regular
season against the Noble Bears. Pre-game activities will begin
at 7:00 p.m. inside the Rock.
The Jays (5-4, 4-2) could possibly host a second round play-off game at
Jelsma if they were to win their first play-off game against
either El
Reno, or Duncan and if Tulsa East Central were to be upset in
the first round.
El Reno hosts Duncan for the 5A-1 district title and two home
play-off games. The loser of the game will host Guthrie next
Friday.
Noble, who has won just one game this season when they
defeated Capitol Hill 48-7 back in Week 8, have not been the
easiest of teams for the Jays in the past despite Guthrie
winning six of the last eight meetings.
Noble stunned the Jays in 2003 and 2004 on Guthrie's own soil.
In 2001, Guthrie edged out the Bears 14-13 so Noble has given
the Jays some fits in the past, but since 2005 the Jays have
owned the series by going 4-0 and winning by a margin of 51-5.
The Bears (1-8, 1-5) are coming off a 38-14 setback to top
ranked Shawnee, but gave the Wolves everything they wanted in
the first half. Shawnee never trailed in the game, but led by
just 14-0 at the half.
The center piece for Noble is senior quarterback Will Starr.
Starr took over at quarterback after Kevin Williams moved to
Durant prior to the start of the season.
Last week Starr completed 13 of 27 passes for 189-yards while
adding a touchdown score. The Bears started off slowly against
Shawnee with just 93-yards of offense, but finished with
367-yards of offense. The Bears are averaging 12-points a
contest and have been shut-out three times this season.
The Noble defense, who has given up an average of 24-points a
game over the last few seasons is allowing 25-points this
season.
No Appetite for Hunger will be at the game and you can receive a free
Bluejay spirit item when you donate
three canned food items at the game.
The game can be heard on Triple Play Sports Radio 105.1 FM as
well as on Guthrie Sports Page Radio. Chris Evans, Casey Porter,
Craig Fleck, and Shawn Ingle will bring you the exciting action.
