KOCO Oklahoma News Channel 5 and sports director Mark Rodgers has compiled a list of the Top 15 teams of all time since 1950 and the Guthrie BlueJays have landed a spot.
The 2007 State Champions, Guthrie BlueJays, fall right in the middle of the pack at No. 8 on the list. The 2007 Jays are the most recent team to make the list. The next season from Guthrie was the 2004 Shattuck Indians at No. 15 on the list.
KOCO's criteria was that only one school's season could make the list and a major factor was the team had to go undefeated. To see the video please visit Guthrie Sports Page TV by clicking here.
Guthrie scored more points then any other school in Oklahoma history with 764 points and ranks 11th all-time nationally according to Max Preps. Along with the powerful offense that average 54.5 points a game, the Jays held opponents to an average of 6 points a game and shut-out 8 of their 14 opponents. The Jays also strung together 19 straight scoreless quarters on opponents.
Topping the list was the 1997 Jenks Trojans, who were led by Rocky Calmus. Throughout that season, Jenks fans could be heard saying, "We're not cocky, we have Rocky."
Some what surprising, not one Carl Albert, or Tulsa Union team made the list. Here is the complete list:
