The Freshmen and Junior Varsity improved their records, on Monday night, with wins over the Noble Bears. The games were played at the Guthrie practice field due to wet conditions at Jelsma Stadium.
The Freshmen started out quick, very quick, and never looked back. After running the kickoff back to their own 22-yard line, it only took one play to score.
Luke Davis took the hand off to the house on a 78-yard TD run. The third drive saw more points put up, but this time through the air.
Hayden Seifert passed to Landry Chappell on a 34-yard TD on a fourth down play. Davis then added a 1-yard TD run in the second quarter that was set up by a 30-yard pass to John Clark.
Jacob Jamison finished off the scoring with a 76-yard TD reception from Seifert, making the score 28-0. The offensive line of tackles Blake Belcher and Zach Brown, guards Malachi Galbreath and Cooper Davis, and center Dusty Cotton are a very solid bunch and have been showing improvement all season long for coach Jon Chappell.
The defense allowed just one first down all night, and were lead in tackles by Landry Chappell with seven and Elaunta Sherrill with six. The Freshmen squad improves their record to 5-0 on the year with four games remaining on the schedule.
While the JV was warming up, the Oklahoma sky opened up and the rains came, but in the end the Jays would pick up their third win of the season with a 13-6 decision to improve to 3-1 and winners of their last three.
Junior Christian Lamb started the scoring in the first quarter with a 9-yard bootleg pass to sophomore Michael Watts, which was set up by a 17-yard run by sophomore Derrick Kelly. After a Noble three and out, Lamb threw a fade route to Tim Zupo for a 12-yard TD reception to complete the scoring for the night.
The Jays defense flexed their muscles throughout the evening by allowing one scoring drive with 1:50 left in the fourth quarter. The defensive line of junior Martell Oates, junior Ricky Ware and sophomore Cody Doyle caused havoc all night in the Noble backfield freeing up juniors Kolt Rineheart and Ben Schwartz to fly around the field and punish the ball carriers.
Both squads will travel to Deer Creek on Monday, October 13, to take on the Antlers
