When the Capitol Hill Redskins arrive to Jelsma Stadium, on Friday night, to take on the third ranked Guthrie BlueJays they will have already earned the respect of the Guthrie coaches, players, boosters, and fans.
The Redskins, an Oklahoma City public school, have won just a single game this season back in Week 2 over U.S. Grant, but for this team it may not matter about wins and losses. It does matter if they have enough players to suit out to even play.
Currently, Capitol Hill (1-7) has 19-players on their current roster and that number may be down to 17 by the time Friday night arrives. As sad as 17-players may sound there were a total of two fans in the stands to watch the Redskins last week in Noble.
The Redskins won two games a season ago which match their most wins dating back to the 1999 season. To add to the difficult situation, Capitol Hill has not won a district game in 8-seasons.
On September 8th 2006, Capitol Hill snapped a 43-game losing streak with a win over rival U.S. Grant with a 43-12 win.
This past summer prior to the start of the season, Pacal Jones, the then head coach, was arrested on marijuana charges and was released of his duties. Darrell Peterson has since taken over the program.
In the meantime, Guthrie (7-1) rebounded nicely in the win column with the win over Shawnee last week. The Jays continue to hold their No. 3 ranking in all the major polls and can wrap up the second place district finish with a win over Capitol Hill.
The Jays will be without the services of senior defensive play maker Josh King. King will be held of out of the game, but will return for Noble and the play-offs.
