Noble, Okla. -- The two
time defending state champions had no problems with the Noble
Bears with a 77-38 win to collect their third straight win.
Guthrie improves to 4-2 heading into this
week's McGuinness Tournament and made it happen in the game's
first four minutes.
The Jays jumped out to a 10-0 lead and finished with 19 first
quarter points while holding the Bears to just five points.
Guthrie led at the break 35-18.
Leading the scoring ways for Guthrie was senior Chaunsey Dumas
with 19 points on six of nine shooting to go along with six of
seven from the charity line. Dumas was named the Farmers and
Merchants Player of the Game.
The BlueJays put the game away in the third quarter with 22
points and came out on a 12-4 run in the first four minutes to
set the pace and finished the night shooting 56% from the field.
Junior Kentrell Brothers finished with 14 points and senior forward Chelsey
Dumas also finished in double figures with 10.
In the last two games Guthrie has scored 74 and 77 points and are now averaging
55.6 a game while allowing 37 points.
Guthrie will next be in action, Thursday, when they participate in the 50th
Annual McGuinness Tournament. The Jays play to the host Irish in the first round
starting at 4:30.
