The Bears strategy worked for the first 16 minutes, but the Jays took advantage of a 16-0 run to start the third quarter and eventually win by a comfortable 50-33 final score.

Guthrie (17-7) advances to the regional championship tonight, 7:00, with the Northwest Classen Knights. Northwest defeated Southeast, 74-65, in the first game of the evening.

Guthrie and Northwest will be a rematch of January 8th when Guthrie, who was playing without junior Kentrell Brothers, slid past the Knights, 63-56, in the McGuinness Tournament. The game will be played inside the GHS gym and will be the final home game of the season.

Noble (0-20) got the first points of the game, but the Jays over a three minute span went on a 10-0 run to go up 10-2. Senior Chaunsey Dumas and Brothers added four points each in the run.

Noble, however, outscored the Jays in the final three minutes, 8-4, but still trailed 14-10 after the opening quarter. Both teams cooled off in the second quarter as the Jays only lead by five at the break, 22-17.

Only five turned into 21 as the Jays stormed out of the locker room. The 16-0 run lasted 7:01 before the Bears managed two free throws. In the quarter, Noble was 0-8 from the field.

Brothers added five points in the quarter and finished with a game high 17 points by shooting 50% from the field and was 4-5 from the line. His efforts resulted him being named the Farmers and Merchants Player of the Game.
