Guthrie, Okla. -- Junior
guard Kentrell Brothers was not feeling all that well Thursday
evening and the Carl Albert Titans did not make him feel any
better.

The 11th ranked Titans came into the
Guthrie High School gymnasium and came out a 48-46 winner in a
very contested game, but what else would you expect between
Guthrie and Carl Albert.
Guthrie's three game winning streak comes to a halt and falls to
13-7 on the year and Carl Albert improves to 14-6. Earlier in
the day, the Jays were given the No. 2 regional seed and Carl
Albert the No. 6 seed.
Despite fighting the stomach flu throughout the game, Brothers
finished with 12 points and was named the BlueJay Player of the
Game. Brothers playing minutes were scaled back.
Brothers 3-point shot to start the game was quickly erased as
the Titans reeled off eight straight points to go up 8-3 in the
first 3:53. Guthrie could never regain the lead until late in
the fourth quarter. The game did see three ties at 19, 43, and
45.
Trailing 19-13, the Jays piled on a 6-0 run to tie the game in a
1:24 span, but Titan guard Caleb Price drained a 3-point shot
with :12 left in the half to give his team an advantage at the
break, 22-19.
Carl Albert added to that lead and had their biggest lead of the game, 35-27,
near the end of the quarter. However, Guthrie chipped in four points to end the
quarter trailing 35-31.
The fourth quarter went back and forth and with 4:00 to play the game was tied
at 45-all. B.J. McDonald hit one of two free throws to give the Jays a 46-45
advantage.
Titan's Markell Walker shot off the glass gave his team the lead back, 47-46,
with over a minute to play and J.T. Realmuto's free throw gave Carl Albert a two
point lead, but Guthrie still had chances with :24 left.
Guthrie had multiple chances including inbounding the ball on the baseline with
:01, but Brothers 3-point shot went flying over the back board at the buzzer.
Carl Albert had four players to score in double figures and were led by
Realmuto's 16 points.
