Day Three
Guthrie 59, Douglass 67

Guthrie has played in the Titan Classic for three years now and each year have placed in the top three in the deep, rich talented field. Douglass gave the Jays a 67-59 loss in the finals of the 2010 Titan Classic as heard on Guthrie Sports Page Radio.

The loss drops the Jays to 10-5 and snapping their four game winning streak, while Douglass improves to 16-0. Guthrie won the Classic in 2008 and finish third in 2009. Senior Devon Hall and junior Kentrell Brothers were named to the All-Tournament team. Hall finished with 50 total points scored in the three day tourney with 17 points each in the first two days.

The Trojans, who are ranked No. 1 in the Class 4A rankings, jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Guthrie would go on an 8-0 run in the next 1:20. Douglass had a 15-13 edge after the first quarter. The Trojans used a full court man-to-man and half court trap to force the Jays into turnovers and forced shots throughout the night, but Guthrie at times executed well against the constant pressure by the athletic Trojan team.

Guthrie 13 15 12 19 59
Douglass 15 9 22 21 67
Guthrie responded with 15 second quarter points to take a 28-24 lead to the half, but then that is when Douglass seem to get over the top.

The Trojans scored 22 points in the third quarter on Thursday versus Del City, Friday against Carl Albert, and again Saturday night against the Jays while holding Guthrie to just 12 points to take a 46-40 lead after three quarters.

Hall hit a shot to start the scoring in the fourth quarter to pull his team within four, 46-42, but Douglass then went on their own 8-0 run to push their lead up to 12, 54-42, with 6:12 to play. Guthrie could not pull any closer then five points, 57-52, with 2:31 left to play. Douglass took advantage of the free throw line by going 19 of 29 and all coming in the second half.

Day Two
Guthrie 48, Midwest City 45

The Guthrie BlueJays have advanced to the championship game of the Carl Albert Invitational with an exciting, but grinding game with the sixth ranked Class 6A Midwest City Bombers.

A year ago, MWC won in double overtime over the Jays, 63-58, to advance to the CA finals.

The Jays never had a lead at the end of the first three quarters, but a 12-8 fourth quarter run proved to be the difference. However, things did not look promising in the first quarter.

Devon Hall led the Jays in scoring with 1 7 points and is on his way to an all tournament team with 17 points in the win over Ardmore. Kentrell Brothers added eight.

Guthrie 7 15 14 12 48
MWC 15 9 13 8 45
 Hall 17, Brothers 8, Murillo 6, McDonald 6, Zupo 4, Cha. Dumas 4, Gross 3, Che. Dumas 1
The Bombers got the Jays to play their style of game by going up and down the court in a quick pace game and it worked as MWC jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the first 5:24 and lead 15-7 after one.

The Jays tied the game at 18 with 4:47 to play before the half, but MWC outscored the Jays 6-4 to take a 24-22 lead into halftime.

Guthrie tied the game, again, at 28 and 29-all before taking a brief lead of 31-29 with 3:35 to play in the third quarter, but MWC went on an 8-5 run to lead 37-36 after three complete.

It was a back-and-forth fourth quarter as it was tied at 42 with three minutes to play. Guthrie got the lead for good with :13 to play and MWC's three point shot attempt was blocked into the stands by senior Chauncey Dumas to preserve the win.

The first day of the Carl Albert Invitational went much as expected on day one with Class 4A's Douglass Trojans went to 14-0 with a 70-55 win over 6A's Del City. Midwest City and Carl Albert had just as an easier time with wins over Tulsa Hale and Millwood, respectively.

The game of the first day, as expected, was in the nightcap with third ranked Ardmore and 10th ranked Jays.

Day One
Guthrie 65, Ardmore 55

Guthrie stormed out of the locker room by outscoring Ardmore 16-4 in the first quarter, but you knew the Tigers were not done, as they came back in the second quarter to flip the scoring output by scoring 22 points and holding the Jays to just eight.

The Jays were led by their big men down low in senior Devon Hall and B. J. McDonald. The duo combined for 33 points as Hall finished with 17 points. Junior guard Kentrell Brothers also scored in double digits with 14 and has averaged 19.3 points in his last three games.

Ardmore trailed for majority of the first half, but led at the break 26-24.

Guthrie 16 8 23 18 65
Ardmore 4 22 9 20 55
Devon Hall 17, B.J. McDonald 16, Kentrell Brothers 16, Codee Gross 8, Caleb Murillo 6, Tim Zupo 2, Chaunsey Dumas 2
Guthrie much liked in the first quarter started the third quarter with a spark by going on a 15-0 run in the first 4:56 to open the game up at 39-26. Ardmore continued to fight back, but the Jays held onto a 47-35 lead after the first 24 minutes.

The Tigers pulled within six points twice at 49-43 and 56-50, but Guthrie finished the game with a 9-5 run to secure their third win in a row.

Guthrie improves to 9-4 this season and Ardmore (10-5) falls to a 5A team for the first time this season. To view the upcoming schedule and results click here.

The Jays will take on Class 6A's Midwest City Bombers, who defeated the Jays in the same second round game a season ago in double overtime (63-58). In that game, Guthrie alum Donte' Foster made national news by hitting a shot with his back to the goal and made ESPN's Top 10 plays. To view the shot once more click here.
